Heavy Duty Mechanic - Wolverine Mine, Yukon

Yukon Zinc Corp has an immediate need for an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic/Technician for the Care & Maintenance Crew at the Wolverine Mine in the southeast Yukon Territory.

This could either be a contracted assignment or a permanent position with the company.  Preference will be given to local candidates in the Yukon or parts of the western Canada.  The successful candidate will be required to work 12 hours a day on a 3-week rotation at the Wolverine mine site.

Wolverine is a “dry camp”, fly-in/fly-out underground mine that’s currently on care and maintenance.  The mine site is located midway between Ross River and Watson Lake on the Robert Campbell Highway and is approximately 280 km by air northeast of Whitehorse.


Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for completing work based on Company guidelines for safety, environmental compliance, and general work practices/procedures.  More specific requirements include:

  • Conduct maintenance and repairs to a number of surface service vehicles and equipment as required
  • Mechanically work on light trucks, AVTs, snow blowers, generators and etcetera Trouble shoot wiring and electronics (computer) on the equipment
  • Coordinate with warehousing for utilizing existing in stock spare parts
  • Coordinate with maintenance planning for establishing and carrying out effective repair and maintenance programs
  • Support some level of the camp service and related work, including but not limited to heavy equipment operation, snow shoveling, housekeeping and various tasks across Site as shared responsibility with other members of the small C&M crew
  • Other duties as may be reasonably assigned by your Supervisor


  • Trade qualification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (Technician) with experience servicing underground mining equipment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline mobile and stationary equipment preferably in the heavy industry setting.
  • Excellent work ethics and demonstrated record of safety leadership.
  • Live in the proximity to the Wolverine site, i.e. the Yukon or Western Canada
  • Able to work a rotational work schedule of 3 weeks in and 3 weeks out.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification preferred if from outside of the Yukon
  • Remote camp (northern climate) experience preferable.
  • Consent to a pre-employment medical examination which includes a drug and alcohol screening.
