OVERVIEW
Most of Yukon Zinc Corporation's (Expatriate's) exploration since formation in 1993 has been in the Yukon. Initially the focus was grassroots based; however, the shift in focus to more advanced properties occurred in 1998 following the Company's acquisition of a 60% interest in the Wolverine Joint Venture from Boliden Westmin Canada Ltd. (This became a 100% interest in May 2004 with the acquisition of Atna's interest in the Wolverine Joint Venture).
The discovery history in the Finlayson District began with the discovery of the Kudz Ze Kayah deposit by Teck Cominco in 1994 and was followed by discovery of the Wolverine deposit in 1995, Ice deposit in 1996 and GP4F deposit in 1997. There was very little drilling in the Finlayson District from the period of 1998 to 2003.
In 2002, Yukon Zinc's exploration focus returned to the evaluation of its large land-holdings in the Finlayson District; it also acquired three copper projects in Chile and its Chilean subsidiary resumed exploration. It sold its interest in the Regal Ridge emerald property to True North Gems Ltd. and joint ventured with Entourage Mining Ltd. the gemstone rights on the surrounding large land holdings in the Finlayson District.
In June 2003, Yukon Zinc purchased a 60% interest in the Logan deposit located in the Rancheria District of the southern Yukon and engaged Hatch Associates to undertake preliminary engineering of the combined development of Wolverine and Logan deposits.
Exploration in the District resumed in 2004 with discovery of new massive sulphide mineralization by both Yukon Zinc and Teck Cominco. As exploration progresses, additional discoveries are probable, given the common characteristic of such districts to contain clusters of deposits. Yukon Zinc has 100% interest in prime exploration lands in the Finlayson District that are known to contain at least 10 areas of relatively unexplored massive sulphide mineralization.
Yukon Zinc resumed drilling on its Goal Net and Wolverine properties in 2004 with encouraging results.
